Why phone scams are so difficult to tackle
Many of us now refuse to answer telephone calls from an unknown number, for fear that it could be a scam. And we dread receiving a text message, purportedly from our bank or a delivery firm, again due to concerns that it might be from fraudsters.

Received a cold call on this number from an "Pension Report Company", asking if I had a pension frozen and if I could tell them the name of company it was for and when. Naturally, my alarm bells rung.
The caller claimed that I'd contacted them requesting a report, which was completely untrue. I told him I had definitely NOT contacted them but he was insistent that I had – via a 'competition website' – and when I quizzed him further he said it was through something called 'UK Prize'. What a load of rubbish! How do these people have the audacity to make these lies up?
I'm not sure what they have to gain by trying to persuade people into giving them personal details, but be warned: DO NOT give these people any personal information for an alleged 'free service'. Callers like these should be banned and fined!
